“Democrats believe immigration is not just a problem to be solved, it is a defining aspect of the American character and our shared history.”
- The Democratic Party Platform
Bridgewater Democrats know we are a nation of immigrants. Their story, our story, is a story of America: hard-working families coming to the United States to create a brighter future for their children and all of us, together. The story of immigrants is the story of American success, rooted in family and fueled by hope. It continues today in families all across the United States.
This critical time our national conversation challenges the collaboration and progress toward our shared success based on the ideals of hospitality and respect for those that are different from us. Bridgewater Democrats are standing up to renew our values and support those threatened by intolerance. Democrats in Congress and in states and cities across the country are already working to oppose ignorance, hatred and bigotry and defend their neighbors including recent immigrants as we are all immigrants to our land at one time or another.
Democrats will continue to work toward comprehensive immigration reform that fixes our nation’s broken immigration system, improves border security, prioritizes enforcement so we are supporting families staying together, families who strengthening our economy. We seek to do this while protecting all of us from criminals.
Immigrants play central role in our economy, and in our daily lives, including those who have recently arrived. We must bring these people from the shadows of our society into a fair place among us. This country faces enormous problems and to solve them we must work together using all the talent our people bring to this great nation.
Democrats know the importance of our country’s history as a nation of immigrants. We honor our fundamental values by treating all people who come to the United States with dignity and respect, and we always seek to embrace immigrants.
The Bridgewater Democratic Committee and the candidates running for Bridgewater Township Council pledge to:
- Support initiatives to foster hospitality, understanding,
and respect for all in Bridgewater
- Speak out against unfair immigration policies and practices occurring in town
- Keep abreast of the role our police department will play in immigration enforcement

Making a Difference in our Community:
On June 15 we sponsored Ms. Daniella Hobbs, 2013 graduate of Bridgewater Raritan High School and 2017 graduate of Ithaca College in presenting her award winning documentary, "City of Good Neighbors." This film documents the refugee community in Buffalo, and how those residents are contributing to the overall development of the city.
